BJ Penn might not be retiring just yet despite post fight assertions according to fightersonlymagazine.co.uk.
Penn recently fought Nick Diaz in the main event at UFC 137. Despite a strong opening round, Penn was unable to find an answer for Diaz's precise striking that ultimately led to a unanimous decision victory for Diaz. Bruised and battered, Penn declared that he was going to call it a career in the post fight interview.
"Joe, it's probably the last time you are ever going to see me in here...I got a daughter, another daughter on the way. I don't want to go home looking like this, I'm done" Penn said to UFC commentator, Joe Rogan, shortly after his loss to Diaz.
However Penn's Jiu Jitsu coach, Allen Goes, now attributes those statements to be a product of emotions. Just hours after his fight with Diaz, Goes points out that Penn said "I'll be back".
Time will tell if Penn returns to the Octagon or not. If the main event at UFC 137 is his last bout, "The Prodigy" leaves MMA with a record of 16-8-2 and just the second man to have held two titles in two weight classes in the UFC, welterweight and lightweight. Penn has gone 1-3-1 since losing his UFC lightweight title to Frankie Edgar at UFC 112.
