First UFC 106, then UFC 107 and now The Ultimate Fighter season 10 finale is the latest card to be hit with the injury bug. A co-headlining lightweight clash between Kurt Pellegrino and Frankie Edgar has been scrapped from the Dec. 5 event after Pellegrino was forced to withdraw due to a back injury.
Edgar first posted the news of Pellegrino's injury and withdrawal from the event on his official Twitter account.
MMA FanHouse.com has since reported that Pellegrino has three herniated discs in his back and has been ordered by his doctor to rest for at least three weeks. According to the report, Matt Veach is the leading candidate to replace Pellegrino against Edgar. Veach is currently scheduled to face Mark Bocek on the preliminary portion of TUF 10 finale card.
Pellegrino (14-4) was looking pick up his fourth straight win. His previous three wins came against Thiago Tavares, Rob Emerson and Josh Neer respectively. He has not loss since last April's UFN 13, where he was defeated by TUF 5 winner Nate Diaz.
"Batman" holds a 6-3 record in nine appearances under the UFC banner, with other notable Octagon wins over Nate Mohr and Junior Assuncao.
Edgar (10-1) is currently on a two fight winning streak, which includes wins over Hermes Franca, and former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk at UFC 98 in May. Prior to the wins, he was handed his first career loss at the hands of Gray Maynard at UFN 13.
Edgar has put together a 5-1 UFC record, with other big wins over Tyson Griffin, Mark Bocek and Spencer Fisher.
TUF 10 finale takes place on Dec. 5 at the The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV, and the main card will be televised on Spike TV.
The event is headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between undefeated phenom Jon "Bones" Jones and contender Matt Hamill. In addition, a battle between the top two heavyweight finalists from the 10th season of the Ultimate Fighter will also be featured.
