Thiago Silva will not be fighting Tim Boetsch at UFC 117. A back injury to the light-heavyweight has forced him to withdraw from their scheduled bout. MMAWeekly.com confirmed the news from sources close to the situation.
Silva (14-2, 5-2 UFC) was hoping to bounce back from his last fight in January which resulted in a decision loss to Rashad Evans. Silva started his UFC career off with consecutive victories over Tomasz Drwal, Houston Alexander and Antonio Mendes. His first defeat came at the hands of fellow Brazilian Lyoto Machida by way of knockout at UFC 94. Silva bounced back with a KO win over Keith Jardine before falling to Evans at UFC 108.
Boetsch (11-3, 2-2 UFC) is in his second tour with the UFC. "The Barbarian" is on a three-fight win streak outside of the promotion, giving him another opportunity to compete on the big stage.
A replacement for Silva has yet to be determined.
