Bellator Fighting Championship is ready to close out its first season by crowning their last two champions as nearly all fighters made weight for Week 12.
Bellator FC XII will take place tomorrow night, June 19, at the Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, Florida , and will be broadcast via tape delay on Saturday evening, June 20, on ESPN Deportes at 9 p.m.
The event will feature the promotion's middleweight tournament final as tournament favorite Hector Lombard takes on Jared Hess. Lombard advanced to the final by dismantling both Virgil Lozano and James Damien Stelly via first-round stoppages. Hess reached the final by defeating Daniel Tabera in the first round and then went on to best Yosmany Cabezas in the semi-finals of the tourney.
Also featured, top-ten ranked lightweight Eddie Alvarez will battle Toby Imada in the Bellator lightweight tournament final. Alvarez moved to the final by scoring submission victories over both Greg Loughran and Eric Reynolds in previous tournament rounds. Imada advanced to face Alvarez in the tournament final by beating Alonzo Martinez but he's probably best remembered for scoring a highlight reel inverted triangle choke submission win over Jorge Masvidal in the semi-finals of the tourney.
Middleweight tournament finals competitors Hector Lombard and Jared Hess and lightweight tournament finals fighters Eddie Alvarez and Toby Imada all successfully made weight for their championship bouts. The winners of each fight will take home $100,000 and be crowned the first ever Bellator middleweight and lightweight champion respectively.
Joe Soto was recently crowned the Bellator featherweight champion and Lyman Good recently claimed the promotion's welterweight title. Both also earned $100,000 and accumalated $170,00 throughout the tournament procedings.
Bellator XII also features 6 non-tournament bouts. Highly regarded lightweight Jorge Masvidal will fight Eric Reynolds and lightweight prospects Troy Gerhart and Luis Palomino will also battle at the event.
A few incidents of note -- both Troy Gerhart and Yvonne Reis missed weight for their respective bouts, however niether will be penalized. Gerhart had an arrangement in place with his opponent and Reis was a late-replacement.
