Bellator heading to Canada on July 23; Joe Warren to fight Patricio Freire
by Hubert Lau on June 07, 2011

For the first time in the promotion's history, Bellator is leaving the 50 states for Canada on July 23 according to mmajunkie.com.

Bellator 47 will be held at the Rama Casino in Ontario, Canada. To date, every Bellator event has taken place in the United States.

An official fight card has yet to be formatted. The event is planned to hold the semifinals of Bellator's featherweight tournament and a featherweight title bout between the champion, Joe Warren, defending against Patricio Freire.

Warren is 7-1, winning his Bellator featherweight title from defeating Joe Soto via tko. He also holds a victory over notable Japanese featherweight, Norifumi Yamamoto. Freire is 17-1, with his sole lost coming from Warren at Bellator 23 via split decision. Should Warren successfully defend his belt, he has a shot at being the promotion's first ever two division champion as he plans to compete in Bellator's bantamweight tournament as well.

"Our fans have been asking us to come to Canada since our very first season. Casino Rama is an unbelievable venue and should make for a magical night of fights at Bellator 47" Bellator Chairman and CEO, Bjorn Rebney said on mmajunkie.com.
