Ben Henderson is willing to fight fellow UFC lightweight, Clay Guida, for the top contender status on the UFC's November 12 event debuting on Fox according to mmajunkie.com.
"Right now, I think Ben Henderson should be in line to fight for the lightweight title, but we'd have no problem beating Clay Guida before we fight for the belt," Malki Kawa, Henderson's manager, said.
Henderson (14-2) is among the names in line for a shot at the UFC's lightweight title especially after having a dominant performance in his bout with Jim Miller at UFC on Versus 5. Miller went into the bout with a seven fight win streak, third longest in UFC history, but ultimately fell to Henderson whose vicious ground and pound battered Miller en route to a unanimous decision win for Henderson.
"We will attract a whole new number of viewers on prime-time TV because we know Clay's style. We know it's high-pace and high-energy. Guida is a polarizing guy in a positive way. Ben Henderson is a very tough guy. We have a ton of respect for him, and we feel he brings the same kind of passion and energy," John Fosco, Guida's manager, said.
Guida (29-11) has long been a stable among the UFC's lightweights but it is recently that "The Carpenter" began to make a serious run at the title, winning his last four fights. Guida last defeated Anthony Pettis, former WEC lightweight champion, via unanimous decision at The Ultimate Fighter season 13 finale.
Additionally prior to his win over Pettis, Guida also felled Takanori Gomi, former Pride lightweight champion, via guillotine choke at UFC 125.
"Dana White always gives the fans what they want, and I hope he'll grant them this fight and John Fosco sounds pretty confident in his guy. Well I'm very confident in mine. The last manager I made a friendly wager with had to pay up, so I think John should step up, as well. We can make it a hair match - loser shaves his head. What do you say, John?" Kawa said.
