Ben Rothwell vs. Chase Gormley added to Affliction III
by Jacob Camargo on June 03, 2009

Yet another heavyweight bout has been added to Affliction 3: "Trilogy" as former IFL heavyweight Ben Rothwell will return to the promotion to fight heavyweight prospect Chase Gormley. The bout was unveiled to MMA FanHouse by Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio at today's Affliction press conference to promote the event in New York City.

Atencio also confirmed that Affliction welterweight Brett Cooper and lightweight prospect Deividas Taurosevicius would be competing on the card in separate bouts.

Ben Rothwell is coming off a win over Chris Guillen Adrenaline MMA II this past December and is now 14-1 in his last 15 fights, which includes a 9-0 record in the now-defunct IFL promotion. Rothwell previously fought for Affliction at their debut event in July 2008, where he lost to Andrei Arlovski via knockout. The MFS-trained fighter, Rothwell, holds notable wins over Ricco Rodriguez, Roy Nelson, and Krzysztof Soszynski(2x).

Chase Gormley is off to a flawless start to his MMA career thus far holding a stellar 6-0 record. He hasn't fought since defeating MMA veteran Eric Pele at MFC 16 in May 2008. Gormley also holds a notable win over EliteXC veteran Jon Murphy at KOTC: "Sinister" in 2007.

Affliction 3: "Trilogy" takes place on August 1 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and will feature WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko taking on Josh Barnett. Other confirmed bouts for the card include Paul Buentello vs. Tim Sylvia, Gegard Mousasi vs. Renato "Babalu" Sobral, Jay Hieron vs. Paul Daley and Dan Lauzon vs. Chris Horodecki.
