It took Bibiano Fernandes just 42 seconds to submit the previously unbeaten Joe Warren (2-1) in the first round at DREAM.11's Featherweight Grand Prix. Moments after the arm-bar submission, Fernandes ran over to Warren's corner and gave him the middle finger. One of his corner men followed up with another middle finger as Fernandes hurried out of the arena and into the locker room.
HDNET color commentator, Michael Schiavello, appeared confused about Fernandes' profane gesture toward Warren, and it is still unclear if the bad blood between the two remains.
Fernandes moved on to fight Hiroyuki Takaya in an action-packed second round war that went the distance. Fernandes managed to edge out a split-decision win to take the Grand Prix championship, but not without some controvery. As the decision was announced, many Takaya supporters in the crowd were shocked to hear that Fernandes had been named the victor. Even HDNET's Guy Mezger admitted that he had Takaya winning the final.
However, when all was said and done, the Brazilian took home top honors and improved his professional MMA record to 7-2.
