Bobby Lashley is expected to face Yohan Banks at Strikeforce: "Miami"
by Jacob Camargo on January 08, 2010

Former WWE star and current TNA wrestling superstar Bobby Lashley was the only Strikeforce: "Miami" main card fighter without an opponent after former NFL star Herschel Walker finally secured an opponent for the event earlier today.

However, that didn't last long, as Lashley will likely make his Strikeforce debut against Yohan Banks at the event. News of the bout was first reported by MMAWeekly.com.

The heavyweight bout is in the process of being finalized and is awaiting approval from the Florida State Athletic Commission.

Lashley, who signed with Strikeforce in December, was originally in discussions to face undefeated prospect Shane del Rosario at Strikeforce: "Miami," however, promotion officials reportedly opted to scrap the match up.

Lashley made his professional MMA debut in December 2008, scoring a TKO win over Joshua Franklin at just 41 seconds into their bout. The NAIA National Wrestling Champion has since went on to win his next three bouts, defeating the likes of Jason Guida, Mike Cook and, most recently, Bob Sapp at June's "Ultimate Chaos" event.

Banks has not fought since defeating Michael Diaz at Strikeforce: "Young Guns 3" in September 2008. Prior to the win, he suffered his first career loss at the hands of John Devine at Gladiator Challenge 75 in March 2008. Banks sports a 2-1 MMA record, scoring a unanimous decision win over Joey Beltran in his professional MMA debut at Strikeforce: "Young Guns" in February 2007.

The Showtime-televised Strikeforce: "Miami" event is set for Jan. 30 in Sunrise, FL, and will be headlined by a welterweight contest between Nick Diaz and Marius Zaromskis for the promotion's vacant 170-lbs. championship.
