Breaking Down UFC 115's Betting Odds
by Ben Zeidler on June 12, 2010

Chuck Liddell (+115) vs. Rich Franklin (-145): I've been watching the UFC 115 Countdown series and let me tell you, it's not pretty. Both these guys look way past their prime, so the question is: who is further past it? While Liddell's prime was brighter than that of Franklin, the Ohio native is currently the better conditioned athlete. I expect Franklin to outwork Liddell to the tune of a first or second round finish.

Bet 1.45 units to win 1 unit.

Carlos Condit (+115) vs. Rory MacDonald (-145): There's no way. Just a year ago, Condit was hailed as one of the top 170ers in the world. Now, he's an underdog to MacDonald. Condit (my #12 welterweight) should win this going away, most likely by submission.

Bet 2 units to win 2.3 units.

Tyson Griffin (-240) vs. Evan Dunham (+190): I don't see how Griffin loses this fight, but -240 is reserved for St. Pierre/Hughes landslides. Expect Griffin to outpunch Dunham to a win, but the odds aren't right yet. If Griffin drops closer to -200, make a move.

No bet.

Pat Barry (-175) vs. Mirko Filipovic (+145): This is such a tough call. My heart tells me Cro Cop has one more in the tank; my head says Barry should have his number. They're both coming off wins, but I think that victory is more key to Cro Cop's game. Here's hoping...

Bet 1 unit to win 1.45 units.

Ben Rothwell (-165) vs. Gilbert Yvel (+135): Odds Rothwell looks like junk at the weigh in: -1000. Odds Yvel gets DQed: -500. Odds someone leaves in a body ba: -300. These guys are both headhunters and at least one of them is a little bit nuts. Someone is getting knocked out - hard-and my bet is that Rothwell is doing the knocking.

Bet 1.65 units to win 1 unit.

David Loiseau (+175) vs. Mario Miranda (-220): This is another head vs. heart argument (I really need to stop watching old UFC tapes). In this case though, I'm going with the new guy. Loiseau had his place in MMA, but the future is here. However, -220 is just nuts. Miranda takes this fight (probably a decision) but I'm not touching that -220. Get him down near Franklin's level and we'll talk.

No bet.

Paulo Thiago (-260) vs. Martin Kampmann (+200): I'm the only one who isn't totally sold on Paulo Thiago. He's good, but is he going to run through Kampmann as the odds suggest? Doubtful. Thiago is my #10 WW and Kampmann is #28. Yeah, it's a bit of a spread but it's not as wide as you think. Put a baby play on Kamp in case he game plans well.

Bet .5 units to win 1 unit.

 |  (3) Comments Internet Tufguy: I'd love to see Cro Cop pick up a win too, but I wouldn't bet on it. mike5k: I think if we followed Ben's advice we would have made some money. D_V: a broken watch is right twice a day. He still thought griffin would kill dunham even though he didn't think it was worth it to bet on it so that would have been better. He didn't make anyone money on that. If he was on the dunham train he'd be right on the money, but nobody really was so it's hard to hold it against him. Efrain is looking better now too. that fight kind of vindicates his loss a little especially since he did way better griffin.
