“He’s a very good friend [Tim Tebow], been a good friend for a couple of years now, and me and him workout a lot together and text and call each other all the time. He’s a very positive guy, very similar to me. You are who you surround yourself with and me and Tim are kind of the same in terms of work ethic and the way we go about life. I surround myself with guys who are pretty successful, good people, and I think the two biggest influences in my life lately have been Tim Tebow and Ryron Gracie. Ryron’s a positive guy, and Tim’s super positive. For me being around that, it just shows me I’m on the right track. For me I just stay positive; it’s part of the game. I’ve been competing all my life. The most successful people in the world when they do have a setback they don’t look back, the just move forward. For me that’s the plan" -Brendan Schaub via MMAWeekly
Before starting a successful mixed martial arts career, UFC heavyweight prospect Brendan Schaub was a member of the Buffalo Bills practice squad team.
However, with his NFL career not going as expected, Schaub moved home to Denver, Colorado and began training under Trevor Whitman, alongside pro fighters like Nate Marquardt and Shane Carwin.
Though he decided to turn to MMA full time, the former University of Colorado Buffalo kept ties with some in the Denver football community and worked out with members of both the Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets.
During these workouts he met and began spending time with Tebow, when he was a member of the Broncos, and the two struck up a close friendship.
Schaub also counts Ryron Gracie from Gracie Academy among his closest friends, and turns to the Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace when he needs motivation.
With the help of his two close friends, Schaub finds it easy to stay positive through hard times. Recently, Schaub learned that he'd been pulled from UFC on FOX 5 after his opponent Lavar Johnson pulled a groin muscle just days before the event.
No word yet on his next opponent, but it appears that Schaub has all of the support he needs to stay positive.
