A welterweight tilt between Akbarh Arreola and Brett Cooper has just been added to the preliminary portion of the near-complete Affliction:"Trilogy." Signing of the bout was revealed to MMA FanHouse today by Affliction vice president Tom Atencio.
Atencio also revealed another note for the event, former Pride lightweight champion Takanori Gomi won't be competing as previously reported because both sides failed to agree to terms on a contract.
Brett Cooper is currently riding a 6-fignt win streak, with his most recent win coming against Joe Cronin at last month's Call To Arms 1. Cooper previously competed for Affliction in January at their second event, where he defeated Patrick Speight. He sports a 9-4 overall MMA record, with 8 of this victories coming via stoppage and he holds notable wins over Conor Heun, Jason Von Flue and Rory Markham.
Akbarh Arreola is riding an impressive 10-fight win streak, however, he hasn't fought in over a year since defeating Luciano Correa in April 2008. Thirteen of Arreola's fourteen career wins have come by way of stoppage. He holds a notable win over Gabe Ruediger, while suffering notable losses to UFC veteran Mac Danzig and Bellator veteran Toby Imada.
"Affliction: Trilogy" will take place on August 1 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and be headlined by a WAMMA heavyweight title fight between current champ Fedor Emelianenko and former UFC heavyweight champ, Josh Barnett.
