Brian Stann meets Alessio Sakara in a middleweight matchup at UFC on Fuel 2 according to bloodyelbow.com.
Stann (11-4) was at the doorsteps of a title shot and had to overcome just one more obstacle going into UFC 136. That obstacle came in the form Chael Sonnen and proved to be too much for the former WEC light heavyweight champion who was easily taken down throughout the fight en route to a second round arm triangle choke submission. That loss snapped a three fight win streak that included TKO wins over Jorge Santiago and Chris Leben.
Sakara (15-8 (1 no contest)) will look to shake off some ring rust when he fights Stann. "Legionarius" has only fought once in each of the last three years. His last bout was a unanimous decision loss to then-debuting, Chris Weidman. Sakara was on a three fight win streak prior to the loss and holds wins over James Irvin, Thales Leites and Joe Vedepo.
Matchup-wise, Stann should be the favored in the bout. Stann holds eight TKO/KO wins to his credit and is known to be heavy handed in his strikes. Although Sakara is an established striker himself, who boxed before his MMA career, his chin is susceptible to punishment having suffered three TKO/KO defeats.
UFC on Fuel 2 is set for April 14 at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
