Brock Lesnar at full potential for UFC 141, "I've never been knocked out cold"
by Hubert Lau on December 21, 2011

Brock Lesnar will be at full potential for the first time in a long time when he faces Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 says his coach Rodrigo Medeiros according to bloodyelbow.com.

"Brock is in great shape. Undergoing surgery was the best decision he could have made. I believe we'll be seeing Brock at full potential for the first time," Comprido said.

Lesnar's fight with Overeem will be his first bout in over a year since surgery to recover from a second case of diverticulitis.

"I'm truly excited about this fight. They're two giants, two monsters on a collision course-I don't think I've ever seen two guys as big and skillful as they are. If Alistair isn't 100%, he'd best not show up, because Brock is super well prepared; I guarantee it," Comprido said.

Overeem comes to the UFC as one of the sport's top ranked heavyweight fighters, former Strikeforce heavyweight and former interim Dream heavyweight champion. Overeem's kickboxing pedigree is a skill set proven to be Lesnar's Achilles heel. Lesnar has show his vulnerability when matched up with strikers as evident in his bouts with Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez, losing his UFC heavyweight title to the latter.

Many have been critical of Lesnar's chin and his ability to remain composed when taking punishment but Lesnar doesn't believe those critiques is valid according to mmamania.com.

"I think it's a bunch of bull****. The fights that I've gotten hit, I've stood and banged with Heath Herring, Randy Couture, Frank Mir. I've taken a lot of shots. I mean, Shane Carwin. And I've yet to be knocked out. I had refs stop a fight for a submission and a TKO, which is a referee stoppage. I've never been knocked out cold," Lesnar said.

Lesnar and Overeem are set for the main event at UFC 141 scheduled on Friday December 30, 2011, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The winner of the fight will be granted a title shot against current heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos.

 |  (21) Comments flyangler: I'll be the first to reply being that I think I am Brocks biggest fan on 5K. I totally agree with him. His chin has never been in question with me, it's the way he handles an onslaught of punches. It's pretty simple fix if you ask me and Randy is the best example for him to mould himself after. He needs to stand his ground, use head movement to avoid the big shots and tie-up his opponent (like a wrestler) to stymie the barrage. from there he can work dirty boxing and lean on his opponent to tire his arms and then work to get things to the mat. Lets face it, Lesnar will be mostly in 5 rounders for the rest of his career and he has decent cardio from what I've seen. Getting through rounds one and two while tiring out his opponents is key, and once he does that he should win most of his fights. Of course there are a few bad, or should I say tough, match-ups for him like Cain, Dos Santos, Overeem?, but make no mistake Brock is a top five HW in the world from the day he started to when he calls it a quits. WAR Lesnar!! Giada Esposito: I agree with both of you. Lesnar is a dangerous matchup for anyone, and he showed a lot of heart and toughness in his comeback win against Carwin. Unlike Cain, he has never been dropped by a single big shot. Overeem will be a very big test for him, but if he keeps working hard and fighting smart, I don't see why he can't regain the belt someday, or at least be in the mix as long as he chooses to fight. GO HARD: his biggest problem is not being able to get hit in the face without putting his hands over his face. he has to stop hating to be hit... i think i heard Wandy speak on it and thats why alot of mma fighters are picking Overeem for this fight ,... becuz of how Brock reacts to getting hit. Lady Dragon 420: I sincerly hope that idiot gets knocked out again:) thebutterflybee: I agree to an extent about the break down above, except for the 5 round point. I don't think I can ever see a Lesnar fight going 5 rounds. That's not a bad thing either. It will just be exciting either way. thug4less: Okay, first of all, who is Comprido? I thought the coach was Rodrigo something or the other? Second, I think GH hit the nail on the head about Brock's reaction to getting hit. That tells me he doesn't spend enough time in the gym with guys that are taking it to him on the feet. He needs that crucible of experience to temper him for when it happens in a fight. Until then, it'll be an instinctive reaction. Jon Jones has the same problem. The Hitman: He has never been out cold, but he has been rocked hard more than once. And Overeem is a better striker than anyone he has faced. If Overeem gets Brock in a "Carwin" situation, the fight is over. I would also like to add that I dont care how good your chin is, if you eat an ooberknee you are going to sleep. Espicially if you are shooting in for a TD. Mtx: Man, I like Overeem and yeah, Borck doesn't like to get hit but, like with Shogun, I think people are pumping him way too much. Yeah, he is a powerful and technical fighter but shit, if he gets thrown on his back I doubt he will be doing anything or getting back up again. I really think Lesnar has this.
