Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin set for UFC 116
by Natalia Baage on March 29, 2010

The time has finally come. Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin will finally get a chance to step into the Octagon together. The event has been confirmed as UFC 116 on July 3, according to UFC President Dana White.

Carwin's UFC 111 knockout win over Frank Mir two days ago set the wheels in motion. Carwin and Lesnar were originally set to fight at UFC 106 back in November, but Lesnar was forced to pull out with an illness. Now that the champion is back in fighting form, he is ready for his upcoming task.

While believing that the interim heavyweight belt is a "make believe belt," Lesnar knows that Carwin is a strong wrestler with knockout power. Lesnar, too, was a collegiate champion, and has impressive speed and power as well.

The two current heavyweight champions both have brutal wins over former heavyweight champion Frank Mir, and will be looking to match each other in size and strength. When Lesnar entered the Octagon after Carwin's UFC 111 fight, Lesnar stated that he was impressed with Carwin's win, but that his belt meant nothing.

Carwin (12-0) and Lesnar (4-1) will battle over Independence Day weekend at the MGM Grad Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

 |  (34) Comments Wandering_Minstrel: This fight is gonna be HUGE! The Heavyweight division has finally become exciting! Mtx: Huge fight, lots of questions are going to be answered in this one. I wonder how Brock is coming back from his little time off. I hope he is 100% for this one cause I wouldn't want it any other way. The Hitman: its time for Lesnar to show the world just how good he is and that he deserves to be the #2 HW in MMA. WAR BROCK!!!!!! IwishIwasMMA: I also have Brock. He showed a lot of maturity in his last few fights (during the fight), and I believe he will do the same with this one. A guy this green against Carwin could be dangerous, but obviously Brock has the skills to beat this guy, just as Carwin can defeat Brock.. I got Brock for now though. Kable: Carwin stops every fight in the first round. Dynamite hands. Strong Wrestling base. Good Chin. 12-0 I know who i'll be choosing. LOL investwithsports.com: I like Brock in this one, but it should be a hell of a fight. Brock looked a lot bigger than Carwin when he was in the octagon after the fight. Carwin has the death touch it seems with his hands though, he could shut anyone off with one shot. Cant wait! The Hitman: brock has to avoid standing for too long with Carwin Heavy Hands8768: Brock win's this fight hands down. Carwin is an overrated garbage fighter, They say he hits hard but who has he really beaten nobodies, a gate keeper and Mir( who doesn't have the greatest chin and it still took him like 20+ punches and all of them landed). Carwin has some of the sloppiest striking I have ever witnessed and he fights with his mouth open. He also seemed gassed after fighting for 3 minutes and to top it off he has a bad chin the only thing he has is a decent recovery time from being rocked. I can't wait for Shane to lose so we can get see some good HW Championship fights(Cain and JDS) Heavy Hands8768: We will see, Buddy Mickey knox: This is gonna be a great war. I've got Carwin by KO/TKO, standing or on the ground, either way. It's definitely his toughest fight yet, but I can see him knocking Brock loopy and being able to finish him. Heavy Hands8768: Forgot to say awesome job, Natalia. It was a great read arlovskiviako: Read the previous page, HeavyHands Heavy Hands8768: What page? I have only 1 Heavy Hands8768: Because I didn't call you a nutt hugger or retarded it doesn't make it a response? to be quite honest I like neither Shane or Brock but I still think Brock is the better fighter and will win. I didn't come here to argue I come for the great articles and atmosphere plus us arguing isn't gonna change what happens in the fight.
