Cain Velasquez's coach believes he is two to three fights away from a title shot

Cain Velasquez's coach, Javier Mendez, believes he is two to three fights away from a title shot and possible rematch with UFC heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos, according to tatame.com.

"Cain knows he blew it...but he's confident that he'll have the chance to fight for the championship again. Possibly in two or three fights from now...When Zuffa offer us that fight, we'll work on it," Mendez said.

Velasquez was the UFC's heavyweight champion not long ago, dismantling Brock Lesnar via TKO at UFC 121 to win the title. However when he was set to defend his title against dos Santos at UFC on Fox, a first strike from dos Santos was enough to put an end to Velasquez's reign as champion just 64 seconds in the first round.

"When we started training, the first thing I told him was not to trade punches with Junior...Junior came prepared, Cain was prepared, but the win went to the one who imposed first his game, and that was Junior," Mendez said.

Velasquez's loss to dos Santos is the only one in his 10 fight career and currently awaits his next opponent.

 |  (22) Comments Lady Dragon 420: I would like to see Cain beat Brock lesnar again lol. snuff: I think Cain is a win away from a title shot. flyangler: I agree with Cain's coach but think 2 nice wins should do it. I'd like to see him face Kongo, Browne or Cormier (depending on timing) first and then the loser of Overeem/Lesnar winner vs Dos Santos. Could be two rematches in a row to earn another title shot in this suddenly deep division. GO HARD: Cain vs Mir for the next title shot. Mtx: You guys sure teared some stuff up tonight... Why is it that mods are usually the biggest post-whores ever :p The Hitman: Interesting statement. Depending on the caliber of the win and how other contenders do in their fights I could definitly see Cain get another title shot after 2 fights. I would say 3 wins and he has a title shot guaranteed.
