Cain Velasquez's coach, Javier Mendez, believes he is two to three fights away from a title shot and possible rematch with UFC heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos, according to tatame.com.
"Cain knows he blew it...but he's confident that he'll have the chance to fight for the championship again. Possibly in two or three fights from now...When Zuffa offer us that fight, we'll work on it," Mendez said.
Velasquez was the UFC's heavyweight champion not long ago, dismantling Brock Lesnar via TKO at UFC 121 to win the title. However when he was set to defend his title against dos Santos at UFC on Fox, a first strike from dos Santos was enough to put an end to Velasquez's reign as champion just 64 seconds in the first round.
"When we started training, the first thing I told him was not to trade punches with Junior...Junior came prepared, Cain was prepared, but the win went to the one who imposed first his game, and that was Junior," Mendez said.
Velasquez's loss to dos Santos is the only one in his 10 fight career and currently awaits his next opponent.
