Japanese lightweight Caol Uno announced today that he will next battle against UFC newcomer Fabricio Camoes at UFC 106.
The announcement was made at a joint press conference put on by UFC, THQ and WOWOW in Tokyo to promote the Japanese broadcast of The Ultimate Fighter 9 and release of the video game "UFC Undisputed 2009." Sherdog's Tony Loiseleur was in attendance and was able to pass along the Uno announcement via his Twitter page.
Uno (25-12-4) has lost back to back fights, with the losses coming against Shinya Aoki and Spencer Fisher. Prior to the losses, he defeated Mitsuhiro Ishida in May 2008. Uno previously fought for the UFC, going 3-4-1 from Feb. 2001 to Sept. 2003, scoring notable wins over Din Thomas and Yves Edwards,while losing to BJ Penn and Hermes Franca.
The 13-year MMA veteran has fought for other notable promotions during his career, such as DREAM, Shooto and K-1. He holds notable wins over Rumina Sato, Dennis Hallman, Hideo Tokoro and Rich Clementi.
Camoes (10-4) is riding an impressive seven-fight winning streak, with six wins coming by submission. His most recent win came over Torrance Taylor at May's Strikeforce Challengers event. Prior to fighting for Strikeforce, he went 2-0 with the now-defunct ShoXC brand, defeating the likes of Joe Camacho and Sammy Morgan.
Camoes has been competing professionally for nine years, scoring stoppage victories in eight of his 10 career wins. The Super Challenge veteran holds other notable wins in his career over the likes of Luciano Azevedo and Jean Silva.
UFC 106 takes place on Nov. 21 in Las Vegas, NV, and will air live by PPV. The event will be headlined by a UFC heavyweight title bout between current champion Brock Lesnar and challenger, Shane Carwin. In addition, a rematch between former UFC light-heavyweight champions Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin will serve as the co-main event.
