Former WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit will return from injury to face promising Canadian prospect Rory MacDonald at UFC 115 in June.
News of the bout was recently confirmed by sources close to the contest.
Condit (24-5) was originally supposed to face Paul Daley at UFC 108 on January 2, however he was forced off of the event after he sliced open his hand open which landed him in the hospital. Then one of the tendons in his hand became infected with staph which put him out of action indefinitely.
Condit picked up his first UFC win in his last bout, defeating Jake Ellenberger via split decision at Ultimate Fight Night 19 on Sept. 16 in a bout which saw Condit get all he could handle from his younger opponent in the first two rounds. His win over Ellenberger was his ninth in his past 10 fights, with his lone blemish during that stretch coming in his UFC debut against Martin Kampmann at Ultimate Fight Night 18 in April.
Before his move to the UFC, Condit went a perfect 5-0 in the other ZUFFA-owned promotion, the WEC, scoring wins over the likes of Brock Larson, John Alessio, Carlo Prater and Hiromitsu Miura.
MacDonald made a successful UFC debut in his last bout by defeating Michael Guymon at UFC Fight Night 20 on Jan. 11. The 20-year old has fought the majority of his budding career with King of the Cage.
MacDonald, who also held the KOTC lightweight belt, has put together a 10-0 MMA record since turning pro four years ago. All of his 10 career wins have come via stoppage including five by submission and the other five by TKO or KO. He holds a notable career win over well traveled veteran Clay French.
Though not officially announced, UFC 115 is expected to take place on June 15 at GM Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The event could be headlined by a third fight between former UFC light-heavyweight champions and TUF 11 coaches Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz.
