Chael Sonnen vs. Mark Munoz tapped for UFC on Fox 2
by Hubert Lau on November 23, 2011

Chael Sonnen is set to fight Mark Munoz in the main event at UFC on Fox 2 in January 28 in Chicago according to mmamania.com.

Before Sonnen can get his rematch with Anderson Silva, he would need to get pass "The Filipino Wrecking Machine". Sonnen (26-11-1) last defeated Brian Stann at UFC 136 via arm triangle choke in the second round. In the post fight interview, Sonnen made his bold challenge to Silva as he called out the UFC middleweight champion to a rematch.

Munoz (12-2) scored a second round TKO win over Chris Leben at UFC 138 and is now riding a four fight win streak. Munoz is also 7-1 over eight fights and is making a serious claim as a top contender in the 185lb division.

If Sonnen can put on another strong performance and defeat Munoz, he will surely get his rematch with Silva. Silva is currently nursing a shoulder injury that will have him sidelined until June, just in time for the UFC's trip back to Brazil.

UFC on Fox 2 is set for January 28, 2012 in Chicago, Illinois. Unlike the UFC's first event on Fox which featured only one fight, their second run at network television will have four fights on the main card with a two hour broadcast time.

 |  (39) Comments Mickey knox: I like this. I think Munoz is possibly the most dangerous fight for Sonnen right now and would pick him with out a shred of hate.........well, maybe a shred. Lay'n'PrayNINJA: Cannot wait to see the troll fight in person!!! WAR CHICAGO! SicJits: Imo, Sonnen is version 2.0 of Okami, and Munoz had a hard time with him. Sonnen by ud Cryptic_Soldier: If Munoz can keep it up he wins... if not Sonnen by L&P snuff: Munoz has evolved much since the Okami fight. This is a winnable fight for Munoz. I don't see Sonnen overwhelming him. I'm so psyched for this fight!!! WAR MUNOZ!!! IwishIwasMMA: I hate this fight because it takes Munoz out of the title picture and does nothing else. It wont even be an interesting fight either.. GO HARD: Munoz trains alot with Werdum... Andy.. Babalu and a bunch of other world class ground guys... q: ) he could lock a triangle, but i see this fight standing mostly and Chael Picking him apart. Chael FTMFW! GO HARD: "(Chael Sonnen and I) competed in college together. He wrestled at Oregon; I wrestled at Oklahoma State. We end up dueling, which is just a one-team duel, a one-team competition between two schools. I end up matching up with him at 184 pounds. We end up going at it and I end up beating him pretty handily...but in that fight he tried to submit me in a knee bar and then changed it into a heel hook. Not a legal move in wrestling. He tried doing that to me and I felt my ankle pop and was like 'aaaahhh' and I knew that he did it so that he could try to come back. I was actually beating him pretty handily and got upset during that match and was just ruthless in that fight afterwards. But after -- years later -- we end up having dinner together with my wife seated with us at the table. She was pretty upset saying 'What's Chael Sonnen doing here? I hate that guy; he tried to hurt my husband.' All of the sudden, out of the blue, she said 'So, can you tell me why you did that?' He pretty much explained himself. "He's a good guy, man. He said 'Can you blame me? I was getting beat!' So I guess...I guess...if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying." - Mark Munoz Hizoka: Silva is fight dodging IMO SicJits: Haven't Miller and Chael fought already? Giada Esposito: So it looks like it's back to Sonnen vs. Munoz again for a title shot. WAR MUNOZ! GO HARD: but i really want Andy to get in his rump. q; D
