Charlie Brenneman vs. Johny Hendricks latest addition to UFC 117
by Jacob Camargo on May 27, 2010

Rising prospects Charlie Brenneman and Johny Hendricks have verbally agreed to meet in a welterweight bout that will likely appear on the un-aired preliminary portion of UFC 117 on Aug. 7 at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

The bout was first reported by MMADieHards.com.

UFC 117 is expected to be headlined by a UFC middleweight title bout between current champion Anderson Silva and challenger Chael Sonnen. Other rumored fights on the card include Matt Hughes vs. Ricardo Almeida, Thiago Alves vs. Jon Fitch II and Junior Dos Santos vs. Roy Nelson.

Hendricks has opened his UFC career with three straights wins over TUF 7 winner Amir Sadollah, Ricardo Funch and most recently T.J. Grant at UFC 113 earlier this month.

Prior to joining the UFC, Hendricks went 2-0 with the organization's sister promotion, the WEC, picking up wins in the promotion's now-defunct welterweight division against Justin Haskins and Alex Serdyukov. The former two-time Division I collegiate wrestling champion has put together a 8-0 MMA record since turning pro in September 2007, with five of those wins being by stoppage including four by TKO or KO.

Brenneman is currently riding a seven-fight winning streak, most recently picking up a win in his UFC debut over Jason High at UFC Fight Night 21 in March. Prior to the wins, he suffered his first career loss against current UFC welterweight John Howard at Ring of Combat 21 in Sept. 2008.

Brenneman, who is also known for winning the first season of Spike TV's "Pros vs. Joes," has put together a nearly perfect 12-1 MMA record over his three-year pro career, with stoppage wins being posted in seven of his 12 wins. He trains alongside UFC veterans Jim and Dan Miller, as well as UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at AMA Fight Club in New Jersey.
