Now that Chris Horodecki (13-1) is officially signed with the WEC, he may already have an opponent set for his debut with the promotion as the former IFL star is in discussions to face Anthony Njokuani (11-2) in December at WEC 45. News of the bout was first reported by MMAjunkie.com.
After opening his career with four straight stoppage wins in Canada's TKO promotion, Horodecki made the move to the now-defunct International Fight League promotion. He went 8-1 with the IFL, scoring notable wins in the promotion over Ryan Schultz and Bart Palaszewski.
Despite all his success with the IFL, Horodecki failed to win the promotion's lightweight title after suffering his lone career loss at the hands of Ryan Schultz in the first-ever IFL lightweight title fight. His IFL career ended on a high note though with a win over Nate Lamotte via unanimous decision in April of 2008.
Horodecki has fought just once following the IFL's demise, defeating William Sriyapai via first-round submission at June's "Ultimate Chaos" event in Biloxi, Miss. Neck and arm injuries have played a role in why he hasn't been fighting more. "The Polish Hammer" was slated to fight Dan Lauzon at Affliction: "Trilogy," but the event was canceled and the promotion later folded its MMA operations.
Njokuani has scored back to back TKO wins in the WEC over Bart Palaszewski and most recently against Muhsin Corbbrey at WEC 43 earlier this month. Prior to the wins, he suffered just his second career loss to Benson Henderson in his WEC debut in January at WEC 38.
The Art of War veteran has finished six of his 11 career bouts and his only other career loss came against Donald Cerrone at ROF 29: "Aftershock."
WEC 45 is expected to take place on Dec. 19 at the The Pearl at the Palms Resort Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Other bouts rumored for the event include a lightweight bout between Donald Cerrone and Ed Ratcliff as well as a bantamweight bout between Damacio Page and Takeya Mizugaki.
