UFC middleweight stable, Chris Leben, is suspended for a year after failing his drug test at UFC 138 according to mmaweekly.com.
Leben tested positive for Oxycodone and Oxymorphon, two potent pain killers, after his loss to Mark Munoz at UFC 138. Since the event was held in Birmingham, England and lacks a governing athletic commission, the UFC policed the infraction under the direction of Marc Ratner. Ratner is the former executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission who now works as the UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs.
"I like Chris and I want him to do well, but based on his actions, he's been suspended for one year. If he needs professional help, we are going to be there for him. We want to see him succeed not only in the Octagon, but in his personal life," Dana White, UFC president, said.
Leben had similar troubles in the past, arrested for an alleged DUI as well as testing positive for steroids after his bout with Michael Bisping at UFC 89.
"I would like to make it known that I fully accept this suspension and apologize for embarrassing the UFC, my friends and family, and the sport of mixed martial arts...Again, I'm sorry to the UFC and fans that've supported me since my days on The Ultimate Fighter," Leben said.
Leben further stated that he would use his year's suspension to get his personal life and career back on track.
