Chris Leben hopes to get a UFC middleweight title shot if he wins in decisive fashion against Mark Munoz at UFC 138 according to fightersonlymagazine.co.uk.
Going into UFC 138, it would be Leben's 21st appearance for the UFC. Since appearing on The Ultimate Fighter season one, Leben has proved to be a gamed competitor as evident in his memorable bouts with Terry Martin, Yoshihiro Akiyama and many others. However, it isn't until recently that "The Crippler" has found his groove, winning four of his last five fights. It is this feat that Leben attributes to his potential as a contender.
"I am getting older and I have been around the sport so long, I think if I win this fight in this decisive fashion people should be like, he's won five of his last six fights, he was sick going into the Stann fight but he didn't pull out, give him his shot," Leben said.
Should Leben be granted his wish, he would meet Anderson Silva once again. Leben first fought Silva in his UFC debut at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 5, where Silva handed Leben his first KO loss of his career.
"Five years ago I fought Anderson Silva and I believe I have changed immensely. I don't know how much he's progressed. So I would love to get that shot again," Leben said.
Leben, now 31 years of age, hopes to get a crack at the UFC gold soon since he does not envision himself as a "Randy Couture".
"For me it's a lifestyle, it's what I love to do. I love to train, I have my own gym in Hawaii and I continue to grow and progress...I am not going to be Randy Couture, I am not going to be fighting into my 40s or anything like that. Maybe three or four more years. Right now I'm still improving...Why stop?,"
Leben vs. Munoz is set for UFC 138's main event that will also be the UFC's first five round non-title bout.
