Chris Leben vs. Mark Munoz at UFC 138 will be the first five round non-title bout
by Hubert Lau on July 20, 2011

Chris Leben is set to take on Mark Munoz in the main event at UFC 138 for the UFC's first five round non-title bout according to bloodyelbow.com.

Leben (26-7) is 4-1 in his last five bouts and is coming off of a first round knockout win over Wanderlei Silva at UFC 132.

Munoz (11-2) is on a three fight win streak and recently defeated former middleweight title contender, Demian Maia, via unanimous decision at UFC 131.

Both fighters sport conflicting styles. Leben has shown time and time again for his crisp striking skills that have led the Ultimate Fighter season one alum to keep most of his fights on the feet. Although Munoz has respectable striking abilities of his own, "The Filipino Wrecking Machine" usually utilizes his wrestling to take his opponents down to finish them off with his trademark ground and pound.

A win for Leben can help put his loss to Brian Stann at UFC 125 become a distant memory. For Munoz another win would expand his winning streak to four fights and really give momentum to his bid for title contention.

The UFC's announcement of five round non-title fights were made public early last month.

UFC 138 will be held on November 5 at the LG Arena in Birmingham, England. UFC 138 was originally held in San Jose, California for a heavyweight title bout between Cain Velasquez defending against Junior dos Santos. That event has been moved up to UFC 139.

 |  (19) Comments Giada Esposito: It may be the first five round non-title fight, but I don't think it will go five rounds. Munoz by TKO in the third. :) Wandering_Minstrel: Leben by KO. snuff: I'm reaaaaally scared for this fight. Munoz has a weak chin. But if someone like Rosholt can take Leben down I'm sure Mark can. Also, if he does, Leben will be pounded to hell. :D ds1001: i hope that both guys will be in shape for a 5 round battle. i don't think that it will go five though... Elvis Freshley: Leben by TKO in the second or third. I liked how Leben dealt with high level grappling against both Sexyama and Aaron Simpson and I've never been on the Munoz hype train. Great collegiate wrestler, but I've never seen him as a great MMA wrestler and actually feel he's a little overrated in that regard. His stand up also isn't refined, I think Leben can turn this into a brawl and will win in that regard. Lay'n'PrayNINJA: I sure as hell hope that, like most England cards, they are not planning on making this a PPV. There is ZERO chance of me paying 55 bucks for a card headlined by Leben and Munoz.... Sorry Breezy, we may have to go to a bar or something for this one...
