Chris Lytle: "I usually have a game plan that usually lasts maybe four or five seconds."
by Tim Groves on February 20, 2011

"I usually have a game plan that usually lasts maybe four or five seconds. As soon as the fight starts and I go out there and I get hit, I'm like 'That's it'." - Chris Lytle to UFC.com.

Chris Lytle (30-17-5) has a history of being in exciting bouts. The former fireman has won four fight of the night bonuses, two submission of the night bonuses and one knockout of the night bonus in his past ten UFC bouts. Now it seems like we know why.

Lytle knows that he can't throw his game plan out the window against crafty veteran Brian Ebersole (46-14-1-1) when they meet at UFC 127 in the coming week.

"I hope to dictate the pace, I have to make the fight happen where I want it to happen," Lytle said.

The former Ultimate Fighter competitor isn't taking this fight lightly. He was originally slated to take on Carlos Condit, in a bout that would put the winning fighter into serious title contention. Unfortunately, Condit was forced to pull out of the bout with a knee injury. Now many fans are looking at the fight with Ebersole as a gimme-fight for Lytle, but he knows better.

"He makes other fighters look bad just because he is an experienced guy and he has been around for awhile," Lytle said. "He'll use awkward movements, he'll do cartwheels, he'll do all kinds of different things."

The American born, Australian based Ebersole knows just exactly what he is getting himself into as well.

"I just need to stay tight, and obviously not get hit on the chin," Ebersole said.

That may just be easier said than done, as Lytle has a history of cracking opponents early and often. However, Ebersole, a southpaw, already has a prime example of who to emulate in order to walk out of the Octagon victorious.

"I can fight it much like Marcus Davis," he said.

Davis was the last man to defeat Chris Lytle when they met back in 2009. He won that fight via split decision.

Ebersole already knows that he shouldn't expect anything less than a three round war with Lytle. It's common knowledge that Lytle has yet to be finished in his 52-fight MMA career or his 15-fight boxing career by anything other than cuts.

"In the end it's just gonna be a tough fight," Ebersole said.
