Chris Lytle vs. Matt Brown promoted to UFC 116 main card
by Jacob Camargo on May 19, 2010

A welterweight bout between sluggers Chris Lytle and Matt Brown has been moved from the unaired preliminary portion of UFC 116 to take a vacated spot on the televised main card portion of the card.

Also, the UFC confirmed a previously reported lightweight bout between Kurt Pellegrino and George Sotiropoulos as the fifth and final fight on the UFC 116 main card. In addition, a previously reported welterweight bout between Daniel Roberts and Julio Paulino was officially added to the preliminary portion of UFC 116.

A spot on the UFC 116 main card was vacated after the exodus of UFC stars Roy Nelson, Nate Marquardt and Thiago Silva from the event. All three fighters were once rumored to appear on the card, but have since been shifted to future events.

Lytle (28-17-5) is currently riding a two-fight winning streak, most recently scoring a first round kneebar submission win over Brian Foster at UFC 110 in February. The win earned Lytle "Submission of the Night" honors. He previously went through a difficult stretch which saw him go 1-2, suffering losses to Josh Koscheck at UFC 86 and Marcus Davis at UFC 93.

Lytle has put together a 7-9 record during his long tenure with the UFC, with his first Octagon appearance dating back to November 2000 at UFC 28. He has scored other notable Octagon wins over Kevin Burns, Tiki Ghosn, Paul Taylor and Kyle Bradley, while suffering UFC losses to notables such as Matt Serra, Thiago Alves, Karo Parisyan, Robbie Lawler and Matt Hughes.

Brown (11-8) is coming off a loss to Ricardo Almeida at UFC 111 on March 27. Prior to the loss, he won three straight bouts, picking up wins over Ryan Thomas, Pete Sell and James Wilks.

Since his time as a cast member on the seventh season of "The Ultimate Fighter" reality series, Brown has put together a solid 4-2 mark with the UFC, scoring a win in his UFC debut over Matt Arroyo followed by a close decision loss to Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 88 in September 2008.

UFC 116 takes place on July 3 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV and is headlined by a UFC heavyweight title unification bout between UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and interim heavyweight champ Shane Carwin.

In addition, middleweights Yoshihiro Akiyama and Wanderlei Silva will face each other in the night's co-main event, and Stephan Bonnar and Krzysztof Soszynski will also square off in an anticipated rematch of their UFC 110 light-heavyweight battle.
