Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz III possible for UFC 115 in June
by Jacob Camargo on January 09, 2010

A fight between former UFC light-heavyweight champions and longtime rivals Chuck Liddell (21-7) and Tito Ortiz (15-7-1) is being discussed for UFC 115, which will take place on June 12 at the GM Place in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

News of the match up possibly taking place at UFC 115 was first reported by News 1130.

The fight will come after Liddell and Ortiz's stint as opposing coaches on the upcoming 11th season of The Ultimate Fighter. Both men have previously coached a TUF season - Liddell coached the first season, while Ortiz coached the third.

Liddell holds a 2-0 mark against Ortiz in their previous bouts. First, Liddell scored a first-round knockout win over Ortiz at UFC 47 in April 2004, and then notched up a third-round TKO in their second match up at UFC 66 in December 2006.

Liddell is 1-4 in his last five bouts, most recently suffering his second straight loss against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 97 in April. His other three losses were to Rashad Evans, Keith Jardine and Quinton Jackson. His last win was at UFC 79 against Wanderlei Silva. Following the loss to Rua, Liddell contemplated retirement and his friend, UFC President Dana White, even declared him retired. He decided to take a substantial amount of time off from MMA to think about whether to retire or keep fighting.

During his time away from MMA, Liddell joined the ninth season of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," where he was voted off after the fourth week. White then eased up his claim that Liddell was retired, and eventually gave into to Liddell's return.

Liddell has put together a 17-6 UFC record during a long 11-year tenure with the promotion. He holds notable Octagon wins over the likes of Jeff Monson, Kevin Randleman, Murilo Bustamante, Vitor Belfort, Renato Sobral (x2), Wanderlei Silva, Jeremy Horn and Randy Couture (x2).

Ortiz has not had the greatest record recently either, as he has not picked up a win in his last four fights (three losses and one draw). He suffered a loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 106: "Ortiz vs. Griffin 2" in November. The fight against Griffin, which occurred in November, was his first fight in 18 months due to the fact that he underwent major spinal fusion surgery to correct a back problem that had bothered him for several years.

Like Liddell, Ortiz has fought the majority of his career with the UFC, putting together a 14-7-1 record over 12 years with the promotion. He holds notable Octagon wins over the likes of Wanderlei Silva, Vladimir Matyushenko, Patrick Cote, Forrest Griffin, Vitor Belfort and Ken Shamrock (x3).
