Kenny Florian (14-5) vs. Diego Nunes (16-1) will be for a shot at the 145-pound belt, according to TATME.com.
Andre Pederneiras, the coach of Diego Nunes, revealed the information to TATME earlier today.
“We’ve got the contract here, we’ve signed it and we’re sending it today for UFC," Pederneiras said. "The winner of this bout will have a title shot. But, if Diego wins, he’ll only fight for the belt if it’s not on Junior’s hands.”
Florian recently dropped down to the featherweight division following two losses in title fights and another in a title elimination bout. He consistently lost to the top of the division, but was able to defeat everyone else. Florian is coming off of a loss to Gray Maynard at UFC 118, in which his wrestling was exposed yet again. He hopes that the drop in weight will help deal with the wrestlers in the 145 pound division.
Nunes is on a three fight win streak, including an impressive upset over former featherweight title holder Mike Thomas Brown. His only career loss came to L.C. Davis in 2009. Nunes is a versatile striker, using kicks extensively in his game plan.
The two are scheduled to fight at UFC 131 in June. The event is expected to be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos.
