The Nevada State Athletic Commission today revealed the post-fight drug test results for nine fighters who competed on the WEC 42 fight card , which took place on August 9 from The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Out of the fighters tested, the lone fighter whose test came up dirty was featherweight Cole Province who tested positive for the anabolic steroid, Methasterone.
Methasterone which is often to referred to as a "designer steroid" has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency since 2005.
According to Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer, Province's license is now under temporary suspension and a suspension and fine could be issued after Province has a chance to plead his case to the commission. His WEC 42 win could also be changed to a no-contest.
Other WEC 42 fighters who were tested and passed includ main event participants Miguel Torres and Brian Bowles as well as Dominick Cruz, Takeya Mizugaki, Leonard Garcia, Shane Roller, Ed Ratcliff and Diego Nunes.
The WEC 42 fighters mentioned above were randomly selected. Athletic commissions typically tend to test main event participants and fight night winners, as well as those who have failed previous drug tests.
Province (6-1) scored a unanimous decision win over submission ace Fredson Paixao at WEC 42. Prior to the win, he suffered his first career loss in his WEC debut against Diego Nunes at WEC 37 last December. Four of his 6 career wins have came via submission.
