Below is a breakdown by CompuStrike highlighting previous fights from Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers. The odds set Emelianenko as the 5-1 favorite.
1/24/09 KO 1 Andrei Arlovski - Arlovski was outlanding Fedor 18-8 in total strikes (12 arm strikes and six leg strikes) before attempting a flying knee after driving Fedor to the ropes. Fedor, who landed seven of 20 arm strikes, countered with single right hand to the suspect chin of Arlovski, who was counted out, face to the mat, at 3:14 of round one. Arlovski is the fifth UFC champ that Fedor has defeated, joining Tim Sylvia (KO 1); Antonio Nogueira (dec); Mark Coleman (sub.) and Kevin Randleman (sub.)
7/19/08 W sub 1 (rear naked choke- :36) Tim Sylvia - Fedor mauled the 260-lb Sylvia, landing several hooks and uppercuts that sent the two-time UFC champ to the canvas. Fedor pounced, causing Sylvia to tap out from a rear naked choke at :36. Sylvia did not land a single strike. The efficient Fedor landed six of nine attempted arm strikes.
4/14/07 W sub 1 (armbar - 2:58) Matt Lindland- Lindland was the aggressor, attempting to take Fedor to the mat after Fedor landed three strikes from the clinch. Fedor hip tossed Lindland to the mat into a dominant position and controlled the action attempting an armbar, then succeeding with another attempt at 2:58 of round one.
12/31/06 W sub 1 (kimura - 8:16) Mark Hunt - An interesting scrap, as Hunt held his own on the feet and on the ground. Only Fedor's champion heart and superior conditioning allowed him to escape the dominant positions (and submission attempt) of the 260-lb Hunt, who gassed. Fedor landed 16 total strikes to 11 for Hunt, who secured three dominant positions. A Fedor takedown led to a kimura that forced Hunt to tapout at the 8:16 mark. Note: Pride first round is 10 minutes.
6/6/09 KO 1 Andrei Arlovski - Arlovski landed a low kick and it was all down hill from there, as Rogers landed a left hook, followed by two right hands and another hook. The fight was over in :22 after four landed arm strikes for Rogers.
4/11/09 KO 2 Ron Humphrey - Rogers dominated round one, landing 46 of 79 total strikes, including 32 of 62 arm strikes. A heated pace for a heavyweight. Rogers did severe damage from the Thai plum position, landing 14 knees. Humphrey had his moments, landing 21 of 49 total strikes, including 14 arm strikes. Rogers lost a point for repeatedly grabbing the dreadlocks of Humphrey. This will not be an issue vs. Fedor. A Rogers knee was the beginning of the end for Humphrey, who was hit with 18 arm strikes and eight more knees before the end came at 1:38 of round two. Overall, Rogers landed 73 of 113 total strikes (65%), including 50 of 86 arm strikes. Rogers also landed 23...
