Daniel Cormier (7-0) will face Shane del Rosario (10-0) and Valentijn Overeem (29-25) will fight Chad Griggs (10-1) at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum. The fights were announced during last night's broadcast of Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley.
Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum is currently scheduled for June 18 in Dallas, Texas.
Cormier is currently undefeated during his mixed martial arts career. The former collegiate wrestling champion has hooked up with AKA to expand his all around game. Cormier most recently took out Devin Cole at Strikeforce Challengers: Woodley vs. Saffiedine.
Shane del Rosario is also undefeated during his career. Rosario has garnered a lot of hype for his combination of striking and Jiu-Jitsu skills. In his most recent appearance he defeated Lavar Johnson at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva via armbar.
Overeem hopes to keep on his winning ways after he defeated Ray Sefo at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva via neck crank. The brother of current Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, Valentijn has had an up and down career. He is perhaps best known for his victory over Randy Couture back in 2001.
Chad Griggs hopes to keep silencing the critics with a victory over Overeem. Griggs was matched up with Bobby Lashley at Strikeforce: Houston in a fight many thought Lashley would win with ease. Griggs was able to outlast Lashley and TKO him as the former professional wrestler tired out. In his last fight, Griggs defeated Gianpiero Villante in another bout he was predicted to lose. Griggs showed a solid chin and some serious power during the TKO victory.
Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum is set to be the second leg of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. Alistair Oveerm is set to face Fabricio Werdum and Brett Rogers will take on Josh Barnett in two of the opening round bouts.
