A featherweight bout between Cub Swanson and John Franchi is in discussion for WEC 44 in November.
Swanson (13-3) suffered an eight-second knockout in his last fight against top featherweight contender Jose Aldo [at WEC 41]. Prior to the loss, Swanson had put together two straight wins over Donnie Walker and Hiroyuki Takaya. In his time with the WEC, he owns a 3-2 record with notable wins over Charlie Valencia, Micah Miller and the aforementioned Hiroyuki Takaya. The longtime King of the Cage veteran has finished an impressive 10 of 13 career wins.
Franchi (5-1) was handed his first career loss by UFC veteran Manny Gamburyan at June's WEC 41. Prior to the loss, he won his first five bouts, including a win in his WEC debut against Mike Budnik [at WEC 39]. Four of his five career wins have come by stoppage, including two by TKO or KO and two by submission.
WEC 44 is tentatively set to take place on November 11, with a location yet to be determined. The event is headlined by current featherweight champion Mike Brown and top contender Jose Aldo.
