Cung Le will be making his UFC debut tomorrow at UFC 139 against "The Axe Murderer", Wanderlei Silva, and Le expects an exciting fight according to tatame.com.
"First of all, I'm very excited about it and honored to fight Wanderlei Silva, and, you know, I think that between me and Wanderlei we have a good task because there's a lot of good fighters on the card, so we gotta make sure we put a great fight for the fans and hopefully our fight will be one of the bests because there's a lot of good fights," Le said.
This bout will be Le's first MMA bout in over a year, last fighting at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum where Le avenged his only loss in MMA by knocking out Scott Smith via spinning back kick in the second round. Le was originally scheduled to fight Vitor Belfort but an injury to Belfort prompted his current fight with Silva.
"First, I was supposed to fight Vitor, who's another legend...UFC called me up and said they've got a replacement because Vitor's injured and, well, how do I feel about fighting Wanderlei? I say I'll be honored," Le said.
Le is best known for his striking abilities, his spinning back kick is perhaps one of the deadliest in the sport. Silva is also a competent striker, utilizing muay thai, as he often charges at his opponents with a barrage of strikes to overwhelm them.
"You know, Wanderlei is very dangerous, and you stand before of him can be dangerous. So, training smart because, you know, like Vitor got injured, I don't wanna get injured. I train a lot of things from conditioning to my strength, because Wanderlei is very strong, and then my speed and whatever I need to do to get a big win over Wanderlei," Le said.
Le vs. Silva will be the co-main event at UFC 139 scheduled tomorrow night, November 19. The HP Pavilion in San Jose, California will play host to the event. Dan Henderson vs. Mauricio Rua to headline.
