"I expected a tougher fight. I was actually ready for five rounds. It was the fight everyone had been waiting for. Everyone wanted to know who the best in the world was. Folks were saying there were two. I must thank Gina for the opportunity she afforded me, as she, whether she wanted it or not, is a big name here in the United States. He has been doing really good work. Carano and I are pioneers in the revolution of women's MMA. To have the belt is a big responsibility. I will have to be more disciplined, pay more attention, train more and evolve technically. I feel that after winning the belt everyone will study my game, which is why I feel I have to always change up my game and improve technically, to be able do defend my belt, to win. I'm prepared to fight anyone the president of Strikeforce and Master Rudimar [Fedrigo] put me up against. I'll always be ready, training."
-Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos talks about her big win this past Saturday over Gina Carano. Santos took 4 minutes and 59 seconds to defeat Carano via TKO. Santos was pulled off of Carano just before the bell rang to end the first round of their scheduled 5 round contest.
Next up for Santos (8-1), likely, is a showdown with Danish kickboxer Marloes Coenen. Coenen (15-3), who was in attendance at Strikeforce: Carano vs. Santos and served as an alternate in case either woman missed weight, has stated that she had a deal in place before the fight to face the winner of the contest. She's coming off a loss in her last outing to Cindy Dandois via unanimous decision at Beast of the East earlier this year.
