The Ultimate Fighter season 9 welterweight runner-up DaMarques Johnson will look to pick up his first official UFC win when he faces one-time WEC veteran Edgar Garcia at UFC 107 on Dec. 12 in Memphis, TN. News of the bout was first reported by FiveOuncesOfPain.com.
Johnson was originally scheduled to face Peter Sobotta at UFC 105 on Nov.14, however, the bout was scrapped from the event due to a military commitment for Sobotta.
Johnson (9-7) is currently on a two-fight losing streak, with his most recent loss coming in his official UFC debut at TUF 9 finale in June against James Wilks in the welterweight finals of the ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter. Prior to his losses, he won five straight from Oct. 2007 to Sept. 2008. Johnson has finished all but one of his nine career wins. He currently trains out of the Elite Performance Gym with Jeremy Horn outside of Salt Lake City, UT.
Garcia suffered his first career loss against Brad Blackburn via split decision in his UFC debut at TUF 9 finale in June. His bout against Blackburn was very close and many observers felt the winner should have been Garcia. Despite the controversial outcome of the fight, both men earned "Fight of the Night" honors for their back and forth battle.
Prior to the loss, Garcia had gone undefeated in his first seven bouts of his pro career, which included a win in his lone bout with the WEC against Hiromitsu Miura in Jan. He sports an overall MMA record of 7-1, with six of his wins coming via stoppage, including five by TKO or KO.
UFC 107 will be headlined by a UFC lightweight title bout between current champ B.J. Penn and top contender Diego Sanchez. In addition, former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir will take on Cheick Kongo, and Kenny Florian and Clay Guida will face each other in a lightweight bout.
