Dan Hardy remains bullish about the prospect of winning the UFC welterweight title at UFC 111, despite many people writing off his chances of upsetting champion George St. Pierre.
The British fighter believes his experience could play a factor and that he could be sending a lot of GSP fans home unhappy come March 27.
"This is going to be my 30th fight when I step in the Octagon against St. Pierre. You know, that's quite a few more fights than he's had.
"People think he's superhuman in some way. I see ways he can be beaten and I plan on doing it. All those GSP fans bettin' the house on him... [shakes his head] there's going to be a lot of homeless GSP fans the day after."
Hardy, 23-6, made it clear that he has no intention on trying to change his gameplan against the Canadian fighter. He will be stepping into the Octagon with one intention, to knock him out.
"GSP is a great athlete," he said. "He gets in the Octagon to win the fights and keep his belt. When I get in the Octagon, my intention is to hurt my opponent. I see the fight being basically me landing as many punches as I can before I hit the ground, getting back to my feet and doing the same thing again. I'm not going to go in there and wrestle the guy because that's not my game. I'm going to go in there and throw punches with mean intentions. I'm going to knock him out."
The Brit has upset the odds before in his previous bouts with Marcus Davis and Mike Swick, but GSP represents a huge step up in class. However, one thing that Hardy is not short on, or ever has been, is confidence.
"I'm ready to become the UFC welterweight champion [smiles]," he said. "I'm stepping in there against the best welterweight in the world. I'm confident I can beat him. I know I've got the skills to beat him."
"The question I have to the fans is: how many more of your favorite fighters do I have to beat up before you believe the hype?"
