UFC welterweight contender Mike Swick isn't the only fighter who is hinting at big news to come on a social networking site. Fellow contender Dan Hardy took to his Facebook page to rev up everyone's curiosity.
Hardy's next opponent is set as he is fighting Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 105 on Nov. 14 in Manchester, England. However, that all could change if the UFC decides to go a different direction and pit Hardy against another opponent. Hardy most recently defeated Marcus Davis at UFC 99 in June to move his UFC record to 3-0.
On Sunday, Hardy's status on his Facebook page read, "The universe is in my favour at the moment! MMA fans, prepare for some big news over the next few days!"
The UFC's welterweight divison is in a weird place at the moment, with no clear number one contender to Georges St. Pierre's belt. However, the UFC does have time to sort the mess out as St. Pierre isn't expected to competed again until Feb. 2010.
The winner of the Martin Kampmann vs. Mike Swick UFC 103 welterweight bout was supposed to challenge St. Pierre, but Swick got injured and was forced off the event's card. Paul Daley replaced Swick on the Sept. 19 event and knocked Kampmann out of title contention by scoring a first-round stoppage victory.
Daley did not earn a title shot with the win over Kampmann and he may need two or three more impressive wins to get a shot at the belt. A fight between Dan Hardy and Paul Daley is unlikely to take place as they are teammates at Rough House MMA gym in Nottingham, England.
Now, Swick is healthy and ready to fight, and just on Friday he put out a post on his Twitter account, which read, "Hey guys, no I am not fighting Hughes or GSP next. I do have some really cool news but can't say just yet... Stay tuned!"
Is the UFC going to pit Dan Hardy against Mike Swick at UFC 105 to help clear up the confusion? Also where do Josh Koscheck, Thiago Alves, Matt Hughes, Marcus Davis and Jon Fitch, among others, fit into the welterweight title picture? We will all just have to wait in see.
