When Dan Hardy steps into the Octagon to meet Carlos Condit on October 16 at UFC 120, he will be facing his second Greg Jackson trained opponent in as many fights.
Greg Jackson, of course, is the trainer of a number of highly-regarded MMA fighters known for strong wrestling skills, including UFC welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre.
The last time Hardy faced a Jackson trained fighter things didn't turn out too well for him, as he was repeatedly taken down, controlled on the ground, and very nearly submitted by St. Pierre at UFC 111 before losing a frustrating decision.
Hardy, who makes no secret that what he enjoys the most is fast-paced standup action, the sort of fight where his dangerous striking can make a big impact, is not thrilled at the prospect of seeing Jackson in Condit's corner.
"My biggest concern is that he'll fight a Greg Jackson style fight and run away for 15 minutes," Hardy told MMAFighting.com. "It's not that I don't like Greg Jackson's style but I don't like fighting guys he trains because they always take the safest route and that gets boring, they want to send it to the judges and that gets boring after a while."
Hardy's words seem to echo recent sentiments expressed by Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, who complained about the "boring" style of Jackson's fighters after losing a decision to Rashad Evans, another Jackson product, at UFC 114.
Be that as it may, Hardy says he has been working hard on improving both his wrestling and his submission skills after his experience against St. Pierre.
"I've definitely improved my wrestling (since facing St. Pierre)," Hardy said. "I've spent the last few months working on my wrestling and jiu-jitsu, I have a new jiu-jitsu coach who's one of the best in the world and he's added a lot to my game. Don't be surprised if I take Condit down and choke him out."
Hardy also floated the idea of some possible future matchups for himself, although he's quick to say he's not looking past Condit.
"I know Chris Lytle has expressed interest in fighting me," Hardy said, "and there's also the winner of the Matt Hughes-BJ Penn fight, that would be a good one as well."
