Dan Hardy on training in Las Vegas; ready for Lytle at UFC on Versus 5
by Hubert Lau on August 03, 2011

Dan Hardy has his back against the wall, or the cage in this matter, the English brawler is on the heels of a three fight losing streak as he heads into his bout with Chris Lytle. A loss may very well send Hardy looking for a job outside of the UFC. As such "The Outlaw" has changed his training regime by training in Las Vegas to prep for his bout with "Lights Out" according to mmajunkie.com.

"It's made life a lot easier. When I'm in the U.K., I do a lot of traveling around to different gyms, training with different guys whereas over here (Las Vegas), I have everything I need right at the same gym that's just around the corner of my house. So I get a lot more time to rest, a lot more time to refuel and rehydrate, and there is great talent around me, as well as getting pushed forward," Hardy said.

Among those great talents is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and UFC heavyweight, Roy Nelson. Grappling is one of the aspects Hardy has been hard at work on improving.

"That's a continuous process, and that's something I have to work on for the rest of my career. But I've always taken those steps, and I feel like I've made a lot of improvements in the last four weeks," Hardy added.

The ground game has long plagued the Nottingham native in his UFC career. Most noticeably was his title fight with George St. Pierre at UFC 111 where Hardy was effectively controlled on the ground the entire fight by St. Pierre, unable to mount any significant offense. His last bout with Anthony Johnson ended in similar fashion, Johnson smothered Hardy en route to a unanimous decision victory at UFC Fight Night 24.

"Sometimes, you just need to take yourself out of your comfort zone...Coming out here, having 'Big Country' yelling at me and sitting on top of me most of the day has really changed that," Hardy said.

Opposing Hardy is Lytle, a veteran of 18 UFC bouts and has been 4-1 in his last five fights. Lytle, although known for his stand up wars, also holds 21 submission victories of his 30 wins.

"But regardless of wherever the fight goes, I'm ready for it. I want to show people what I can do...I feel this is a turning point in my career. I've got to get things back on track, and I'm in the right place to do it," Hardy said.

UFC on Versus 5 will be held on August 14 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The event is headlined by a welterweight bout between Hardy and Lytle.

Other bouts on the main card include Jim Miller facing Ben Henderson. Brazil's Charles Oliveira to fight "The Cowboy", Donald Cerrone. Ultimate fighter season seven winner, Amir Sadollah, to face Duane Ludwig. Middleweights, C.B. Dollaway and Jared Hamman set to clash.

 |  (4) Comments Suicidalforlife: Lytle should take this, even with his new training regime Hardy will never be a force at WW it's too grapple heavy at the top and you can very rarely train a guy in his 20s or 30s to the level of grappling most guys stateside have , it's somthin most of them have been doing since early childhood. Hardy seems to be smarter than daly who thought his GnP against Woodley and his failed omaplata should have won the fight for him..... I suppose we will have to wait and see, Lytle by sub after he hurts Hardy standing is my gut feeling . Hizoka: hardy is gonna get his [mod edit] kicked Wandering_Minstrel: This card is shaping up to be sick.
