Dan Henderson talks Shogun bout, wants to fight Jon Jones
by Hubert Lau on November 14, 2011

Dan Henderson will look to secure a win over Maurício Rua before trying to knock him out in their meeting at UFC 139 and states that he wants to fight Jon Jones according to mmaweekly.com.

"I'm not going to try extra hard to knock him out just to get a title shot. I'm going out there first and foremost to win the fight, and obviously try to finish him along the way," Henderson said.

Dan Henderson (28-8) makes his UFC return against Rua at UFC 139. Henderson is 3-1 in his last four bouts since leaving the UFC in 2009 to join Strikeforce. During that run, Henderson secured the Strikeforce light heavyweight title and has three straight knockout wins to his credit.

Rua (20-5) has been up and down lately, going 3-2 over five fights and unable to string wins together during that span. Rua last fought at UFC 134 and avenged a 2007 loss to Forest Griffin by knocking out Griffin in the first round.

"I think he's (Rua) always been a little bit hot and cold, but when he's on, he's a little dangerous and tough. When he's off, he's still tough just not quite as tough as he normally would be. Everybody has those days, but it seems like the last couple of years he's been hot and cold," Henderson said.

Also in the light heavyweight division is its champion, Jones, who Henderson looks forward to fighting in the future.

"Had Rashad said he was injured two or three weeks earlier, I probably would have had that fight instead of Machida...I do think that would be a fight I would enjoy," Henderson said when considering a fight with Jones.

Jones is currently set to fight Machida at UFC 140. If Henderson can defeat Rua, he will likely receive the next crack at the light heavyweight title. Evans is currently recovering from a lingering hand injury and his return is unknown.

"I think he's (Jones) going to be around a long time, he's just going to get better...But I think he's got a little ways to go...He's awkward and unorthodox...that's what excites me these days. Guys that are a big challenge, and he would be more cause he's awkward and dangerous at the same time, but I think he matches up really well with me style wise," Henderson said.

Henderson and Rua are set to clash in the main event at UFC 139 scheduled on November 19 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
