Right now, Dan Henderson does not have a contract - he is a free agent. The UFC wants him to agree on a new contract so that he can fight Nate Marquardt at UFC 105 on Nov. 14.
On Friday, Henderson told Fanhouse.com that if the UFC wants him to face Marquardt, they will need to meet his salary demands.
"I'm holding firm on what I think I deserve," he said. "I think I've earned that."
Aside from a pay raise, Henderson really wants a rematch with Anderson Silva. After Henderson's win at UFC 100, he was promised a title fight against Silva. However, shortly after the fight, UFC President Dana White changed his mind. There was some back and forth from White about the decision, but ultimately, he is still yet to decide.
Henderson said that if he has to fight Marquardt to get to Silva, he is willing to do that to get his rematch.
"If they sign me, I'll fight who they want me to fight," he said. "Even if I get Silva now, after I beat him, Marquardt would be the top contender, so I'd have to fight him next. Beat him now or beat him later - it doesn't matter. I'll have to fight Marquardt eventually."
According to Henderson, Silva might be ducking a rematch. Silva has gone from wanting to fight at the heavyweight division to being injured. At their first meeting, which was UFC 82's main event in March 2008, Henderson won the first round. He is the only person to have won a round against Silva. While Silva ultimately won the bout, by rear naked choke with 10 seconds left in the second round, Henderson capitalized on his superior wrestling skills.
Silva said that he has been thinking about abandoning the middleweight division and heading to the light-heavyweight division. Henderson, wanting a rematch no matter what, is willing to follow Silva into the 205- pound division.
Henderson is confident that a contract will get signed at some point before UFC 105, although he does not yet know if he will be fighting at that event. However, he will start training on Monday so that he can be ready for any match-up at any event.
