With five events until the UFC 108 event in January, bouts are already starting to get lined up for the UFC's traditional 'year-end' card. The most recent addition is a lightweight bout between Dan Lauzon and Cole Miller. News of the bout was first reported by MixedMartialArts.com.
Miller is no stranger to the Lauzon family as he lost to Dan's brother and fellow UFC lightweight, Joe, in the quarterfinals of the very competitive fifth season of the Ultimate Fighter reality series.
Lauzon's contract was acquired by the UFC after the demise of Afflcition's MMA operations in July. He was set to fight fellow Affliction transplant Rafaello Oliveira at UFC 103 on Sept. 19, however, he was forced off that event with a back injury. Lauzon previously competed once in the UFC in Oct. 2006, where he lost to Spencer Fisher at UFC 64. That bout put Lauzon in the record books as the youngest fighter at 18 years old to ever compete in the UFC.
Lauzon is currently riding an eight-fight winning streak, with his most recent win coming against Bobby Green at Affliction: "Day of Reckoning" in January. He has not tasted defeat since Jan. 2007, where he was defeated by IFL veteran Deividas Taurosevicius. The World Championship Fighting veteran sports a superb MMA record of 12-2, with six wins by TKO or KO and the other six coming by submission.
Miller (15-4) is coming off of a loss against TUF 8 lightweight winner Efrain Escudero at UFC 103 last month. Prior to the loss, he won two straight fights against the likes of Junie Browning and Jorge Gurgel. Miller sports a 4-2 UFC record, with other wins over Andy Wang and Leonard Garcia. He suffered his only other Octagon loss against Jeremy Stephens. The American Top Team Fighter has finished 13 of his 15 career wins including 10 by submission.
Also of note, UFC 108 will be the first time in promotional history that two brothers have fought on the same card as Dan's brother, Joe Lauzon will return from a knee injury to take on Sam Stout.
UFC 108 is expected to take place on Jan. 2, 2010 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV, and will be headlined by a UFC middleweight title bout between longtime champ Anderson Silva and challenger Vitor Belfort.
