Former IFL middleweight champion Dan Miller will fill the slot recently vacated by Ed Herman and take on Arizona Combat Sports' Aaron Simpson at UFC Fight Night 19. The bout was first reported from a posting on Simpson's Facebook account and later confirmed by Fiveknuckles.com through sources close to the fight.
Miller and Simpson were actually originally rumored to meet at the event before the UFC opted to choose to pair Team Quest's Ed Herman against Simpson. Herman, however, was forced to withdraw from the bout in order to step in for the injured James Irvin against Wilson Gouveia at UFC 102 later this month.
Miller suffered his first UFC loss in latest bout at UFC 98 against Chael Sonnen this past May. Prior to the loss, he had been on a four-fight win streak, including wins in his first three UFC bouts over Rob Kimmons, Matt Horwich and Jake Rosholt. Out of Miller's 11 career wins, 7 have come by submission and 1 by TKO.
Simpson made a successful UFC debut in his last outing by defeating Tim McKenzie at UFN 18 in April. Prior to entering the UFC, he picked up a win over David Avellan at WEC 36 in his lone bout with the promotion. Since making his professional debut in October 2007, Simpson has put together an undefeated 5-0 record, with all of his wins coming by way of KO or TKO.
UFN 19 will take place on September 16 from the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and will serve as a lead-in to the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter reality series.
The event will be headlined by a lightweight scrap between TUF 5 winner Nate Diaz and fellow TUF alum Melvin Guillard. Lightweights Gray Maynard vs. Roger Huerta will co-headline.
