Dan Miller to replace Phil Baroni against John Salter on UFC 118 prelims
by Jacob Camargo on July 27, 2010

Former IFL middleweight champion Dan Miller (11-4) will step in for the injured Phil Baroni, and will meet John Salter on the unaired preliminary portion of the UFC 118 card on August 28 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

Baroni was reportedly forced off UFC 118 after suffering a "minor" collarbone injury. News of the change was first reported by MMADiehards.com.

Even though Miller has lost three straight fights, the UFC decided to give him another chance to get his career back on track. His three straight losses have came against top competition such as Chael Sonnen, Demian Maia and, most recently, Michael Bisping at UFC 114 in May.

Miller was previously on a 10-fight winning streak, which included opening up his UFC career with wins in his first three bouts inside the Octagon over Rob Kimmons, Matt Horwich and Jake Rosholt.

Salter most recently notched a first round TKO win over Jason MacDonald when the Canadian suffered a broken leg in the opening minutes of their bout at May's UFC 113 event. Prior to the win, he suffered his first career loss against Gerald Harris in his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 20 in January.

The former state high school wrestling champion and NAIA national champion has put together a near-perfect 5-1 MMA record since turning pro in March 2009, picking up wins in other notable promotions such as King of the Cage and Adrenaline MMA.

UFC 118 is headlined by a UFC lightweight title rematch between champion Frankie Edgar and former long-time title holder, B.J. Penn.

Crimsonred: You know, I think Dan Miller's a pretty good fighter. Yeah, he'll never be a contender, but he's definitely a gatekeeper, and he is a very solid fighter. He lost to three of the best, and there's no shame in that. D_V: I can't believe Baroni was still employed. thug4less: Miller does put on an exciting fight. He's just been getting served up on a platter to much more seasoned guys like Iwish said. I can see him beating Baroni though.
