"I've always said, 'The only way Kimbo Slice could ever get into the UFC is to get on here and win The Ultimate Fighter.' Every season, we have four or five guys that we think have potential. We give them the opportunity to fight in the finale and see if they can win and make it into the UFC. This season, Kimbo is going to be one of those guys. I think that Kimbo does have potential. As this season started, a lot of the fighters hated him. After that first fight with Roy Nelson, Rashad said, 'Man, you know what? He does have some talent. If this guy hooks up at the right camp and trains, I think this guy could be a decent fighter.' As we all know, if you watch any of the seasons of The Ultimate Fighter, the guys leave, and when they come back, they are at a whole other level. Kimbo's been training with American Top Team down in Florida. A very well-respected camp. They have Thiago Alves, Thiago Silva, Mike Brown and Luiz Cane that he's been training with. You know those guys are known for their ground work and their jiu-jitsu. All the holes that were in Kimbo's game, he's been working on with American Top Team. This is going to be a real test for Kimbo and see if he belongs here in the UFC. This is going to be a fight that Kimbo fans want to see." - Dana White
In a TUF season that left many people wondering if Kimbo Slice was going to get another chance to fight in the UFC, they have received their answer.
After suffering a loss to Roy Nelson in the third episode of TUF 10, fans felt let down that the main attraction of the show was already out of the competition. However, the UFC played up the hype by continually saying that Slice could have a chance to return to the competition if one of his teammates was injured and could not fight.
Even though he was eliminated, Slice continued to train. While his stand up game is his biggest weapon - with immense punching power - he showed a genuine effort to improve his ground game. He trained with Quinton Jackson ("Rampage") and the assistant coaches in order to get better at his weaknesses.
With his genuine attitude and training efforts, Slice earned himself many fans while being on the show. In the weeks after his elimination, there were rumors that he would fight in the UFC. However, Slice did not have a UFC contract, nor was the show over so that the organization would not spoil the ending of the season. One month ago, it was revealed that he would be fighting Houston Alexander.
Their fight will take place at a catchweight of 215 pounds. While Slice stated that he had problems cutting weight from 232 pounds (the weight he fought on TUF 10), he came in at 212 pounds. Alexander weight in at 208 pounds.
