Dana White: "This whole 'We don't want to fight each other' thing is over."
by Natalia Baage on March 28, 2010

Jon Fitch and Dana White weren't each other's biggest fans last night at the UFC 111 post-fight press conference.

Fitch stated that he wanted another title shot against Georges St. Pierre. Currently 12-1 in his UFC career, Fitch's only loss came at the hands of the current welterweight champion.

"There is nothing more important to me right now than fighting for a title," said Fitch at the press conference. "I'm a better fighter than the first time we fought and I want a title shot."

However, White said that he would like to see Fitch fight his American Kickboxing Academy teammate Josh Koscheck. But there has been a long-standing agreement between the AKA fighters that they would not fight each other for a title shot. Fitch joked that the only way him and Koscheck would ever fight would be in their gym behind closed doors.

"How bad do you want it?" White said. "Do you want to fight Koscheck? He's in your division and he's one of the best... There's no reason that two guys can't go out and compete against each other to see who's better and not be friends."

However, a Fitch vs. Koscheck fight would make sense in the 170-lbs. division. While there are many fighters in contention territory, White feels that Koscheck's wins over Anthony Johnson and Frank Trigg warrant him a place at the top of the title mix. While the teammates do not want to face each other, White said that it has to end.

"It's over," he said. "This whole 'We don't want to fight each other' thing is over. How long can it go on when you have two of the top guys in the same division and they won't fight each other?"

St. Pierre, though, would be willing to fight Fitch for the title.

"He is not the same guy as I fought the first time," said St. Pierre. "He is a much much better improve version. And I'm not the same guy when I fought him as well. It's going to be a different fight, and I'm going to have to think about different things and maybe use a different strategy. It's always a different situation."

 |  (52) Comments Anthony: Wonder if Fitch agrees with Ivan Salaverry now? D_V: you meanie, "he is a much much better improve version". you could at least translate it like he said it in English. The poor guy sounds retarded. You know, you could have put the proper words in like brackets. "he is a much better improve(d) version." Still a good read. I saw the press conference on the internet and you certainly didn't take anything out of context. IwishIwasMMA: YES! Good.. Kos can now get his ass handed to him (or so i hope!) MusicIzMySavior: bad article, u guys misinterpreted dana whites comments Kable: If Fitch knocks out Kos then I will become his fan...I hate Koscheck...If you don't know how much....put a thermometer on the sun and get a reading. mma3dge: dude, i couldn't agree more here with Dana. i get so sick of ppl saying "were buddies" we don't fight. it all breaks down to one simple question. Did you get into MMA to make good friends or did you get into MMA to fight? this isn't the buddy buddy sport.. i can't stand it and TOTALLY agree with White nygiant: A win over AJ maybe but a win over Trigg? For real, that puts him in title contention... meh EverlastingSpringtime: I think its fair enough if dana is gonna give the winner the next title shot, if they are at the top and both want it, then they should have no problem taking the fight. The Hitman: i agree. having three contenders in the same division training together and refusing to fight is rediculous. but KOs has to get by Daley first.... Castle: Yeah, they should fight. They would only fight for that title shot. I bet if Daley wins his match with Kos he gets GSP. If Kos wins he gets Fitch. mike5k: I would do everything that I could to avoid making them fight. Why? Because they don't want to fight. I don't care much about accommodating them but how good a fight is it going to be if they're not going to fight to win? Are they going to go out and wrestle? I'd rather watch the NCAAs. Also, I don't see it as necessary at this point. I would give Fitch the shot now and give Koscheck a fight with Daley or even another with Alves. It's not like they're entirely out of worthy guys to fight them. Anthony: What's wrong with Koscheck-Serra? Didn't they both have very similar wins over the same opponent (Frank Trigg)? xdusty: well theres an easy answer to guys not fighting each other. start brining out the cards and taking chunks of thier purse. "other" fight leagues have done this before. i wanna see the best fights, not the fights that each guy is emotionally ok with. also, i think diaz get way too much credit. and i think kos doesnt get enough (because he's a dick). but being a dick doesnt mean the skill isnt there. diaz has made a living fighting guys a foot shorter and a foot less reach. the only strikers he'll fight are the gator armed haymaker guys (melvin, rory). ill take a sig bet on a diaz vs kos fight if and when it happens. Little_Kang: comon Anderson vs Machida vs Rogerio Nogueira Kos vs Fitch Rashad vs Jones JDS vs Rodrigo Nogueira Maynard vs Griffin I like this idea Dana! Storm: is it just me or does it seem like DW is always picking on AKA? teammates have to fight.... Kos/Fitch. i dont ever hear him saying that Anderson will fight Machida for the LHW title or Jardine/Evans or Daley/Hardy, etc... i think DW might still have ill feelings towards AKA for the video game thing that happened. Storm: not to mention in the 09 video game they made Fitch.... not so good imo. he was never in my top 3 WWs to fight.
