Dana White denies rumors of Royce Gracie participation at UFC 134
by Tim Groves on April 20, 2011

Dana White has told MMAFighting.com that the UFC has no interest in having Royce Gracie compete at UFC 134.

UFC 134 is to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is the first event to be held in the South American country since UFC 17.5 in October 1998.

Prior reports that had been released indicated that Gracie was in contract negotiations with the promotion to compete at the landmark event. Fans imaginations run rampant as to who the 44 year old would take on inside the Octagon. Guesses from Art Jimmerson to Dan Severn to Matt Hughes all popped up as potentially opponents.

Gracie famously represented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the first UFC tournament held in 1993. He won that first tournament and the second and the fourth. He helped prove that BJJ could overcome tremendous odds and men twice his size.

Is Dana White telling the truth? Or is he just trying to keep things under wrap from the media? Let us know what you think in the comments.

 |  (8) Comments Greedydrunk: Royce Gracie was a great champion and together with his family changed MMA forever. With that being said he cannot compete, he has dedicated himself to BJJ and not to the additional aspects of the game all MMA fighters have to have in order to compete in the UFC. GO HARD: thank god. SicJits: damn, my granny said she was ready to whip his arse:D IwishIwasMMA: I would only watch this if it was Saku vs. Gracie.
