"Cain Velasquez is the real deal. This guy is ready for any top heavyweight out there. I call Cain the Terminator. This guy keeps coming at you and will not stop until he finishes you. This kid is very aggressive, he puts non-stop pressure on you and can pick guys from the ground up over their heads and slam them. People don't realize he's 245 pounds. He's very compact and strong as hell. He's a really great wrestler and he's got a great chin. When he took the shots he took from Cheick Kongo, and basically double-legged, took the fight down to the ground. I think he took all Cheick's best shots and he completely smothered him in that fight. I think Cain's had enough fights in the UFC - he's 7-0 - to go up in competition against guys like Nogueira." - Dana White
The undefeated Cain Velasquez never stops getting praise now-a-days. With a perfect 5-0 record inside the Octagon, Velasquez is hoping to pick up another win against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 110 on Feb. 20 in Australia.
With an NCAA Division I background in wrestling, and a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Velasquez will be looking to "smother" Nogueira in order to avoid letting Nogueira get the opportunity to grab for a submission. Velasquez has been training with fighters who specialize in jiu-jitsu so that he can further his grappling knowledge and will be well-prepared for Nogueira's expert ground game.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan also had some praise to throw at the young heavyweight.
"Cain Velasquez is a juggernaut," Rogan said. "He has the most incredible cardio I've ever seen in the heavyweight division. His destruction of Ben Rothwell was just really breathtaking. He swarmed all over him with punches and kicks, take-downs and ground-and-pound. The dude never lets up."
Velasquez currently trains at the American Kickboxing Academy with fellow UFC fighters Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch and Mike Swick (the four of them are currently on the cover of Ultimate MMA magazine). He has trained there for the past three years. Velasquez has said that the training is very intense, as they prepare for fights like they are in a fight.
The winner of the Velasquez vs. Nogueira fight will be thrust into title contention. With Brock Lesnar set to return after illness and injury, it is still unclear who Lesnar will face next. At UFC 111, Frank Mir will take on Shane Carwin to determine the interim heavyweight champion. The winner of Mir vs. Carwin will more than likely get the next shot at Lesnar, however, White has stated that the winner of Velasquez vs. Nogueira could get the next shot, instead.
