"What happened with the last card is people were (complaining) because the Rashad Evans vs. Rampage fight wasn't happening. Look at what happened. This is my philosophy on this: if you're a (expletive) fight fan, we're going to put on good fights for you. It's been pretty crazy. In the history of being in this game, I've never seen anything like this. We've never had injuries like this. It's part of the business. We're in the fight business. Our job is to make fights that people want to see and when guys fall off we've got to fix it. You get 10 (expletive) hardcores on the Internet going, 'Oh, this card (stinks), there's no this, there's no that.' Then guess what? Don't (expletive) buy the card! It's usually the ones that they're bitching about that end up being some of the best." - Dana White
UFC President Dana White explained the lack of star power associated with his organization's upcoming year-end fight card. The card is traditionally one of the strongest of the year, however, due to a barrage of injuries to key stars expected to take part on the card, it has turned out to be among the year's weakest offerings.
Stars that have been pulled from the card due to various injuries to themselves or due to their opponent's withdrawals include; Brock Lesnar, Shane Carwin, Anderson Silva, Vitor Belfort, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Cain Velasquez, Gabriel Gonzaga, Carlos Condit, Tyson Griffin, Sean Sherk, Steve Cantwell and Vladimir Matyushenko.
White and the UFC have tried to roll with the punches, but the card looks to have been put on "queer street," as UFC commentator Joe Rogan would say.
However, there are still good match ups for fans to get excited about. A battle between UFC light-heavyweight stars Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva will anchor the action. This fight will be especially interesting because both fighters only have one loss on their professional record - and the losses have come from current UFC light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.
Brothers Joe and Dan Lauzon will fight on the same card for the first time in their UFC careers. Rising heavyweight star Junior dos Santos will square off against savvy veteran Gilbert Yvel, and noted prospects Dustin Hazelett and Paul Daley will look to further solidify their status in the welterweight division. Also, promising prospects Mark Munoz and Rafeallo Oliveira (who is trained by B.J. Penn) will be competing on the card.
