UFC president, Dana White, spoke about the UFC's recent ban on weapons related sponsors according to mmaweekly.com.
Despite early claims, White says the ban resulted from the promotion's continued growth internationally and is not influenced by its partnership with Fox.
"It wasn't necessarily a Fox decision...The reality of it is we're going into other countries now. If you're sitting in China, you want to see a United States Marine commercial? Holy (expletive), no! It's all part of the growing pains of building a business like this and building the sport," White said.
Sponsorship banning is nothing new in the UFC. Not long ago, in 2010, the UFC banned Good4U since it was a direct competitor to the Zuffa-owned Xenergy. In terms of public image, Condom Depot was dropped as a sponsor in late 2009 due to the subject matter.
"I don't know what the big deal is. I know that some of the fighters get affected by it, but it is what it is," White said.
Among those affected are Martin Kampmann and Cody McKenzie who were both sponsored by The Gun Store.
